ANS Group wins multi-million pound deal with University of Cumbria

Manchester-based managed services and cloud specialist ANS Group has won a multi-million pound contract to develop the University of Cumbria’s cloud infrastructure.

The win, which followed a 20-way tender process, will see ANS implementing a new fully-managed IT infrastructure supporting 1,100 staff and 12,000 students over 10 locations.

The move will reduce operational costs and cut IT management time for the University of Cumbria, which is England’s newest university. It will also offer a flexible, scalable solution for the university as it continues to grow as well as meeting the organisation’s green values by saving 272 tonnes of Co2 and cutting cooling costs by 47% each year.

ANS Group’s solution will be delivered via a fully-managed FlexPod infrastructure to improve service quality. FlexPod is a reference architecture for storage and networking which will provide a dense virtual platform with support for nearly double the number of virtual machines per host than is currently available on the existing system. ANS were named FlexPod Partner of the year last week at NetApp’s UK&I Awards dinner and is leading the way on deployments of this collaboration using Cisco UCS & Nexus technology combined with NetApp Storage coined FlexPod.

Paul Sweeney, Managing Director at ANS Group, said: “We’re proud to be supporting the University of Cumbria through this period of growth and providing them with a flexible system which will expand with their needs.
“The university, by its nature, has to adopt a complex and vast IT network and we’re keen to navigate their IT landscape and provide a service which will help provide a noticeable difference to the university’s staff and students.”

Colin Coghill, Director of IT Services from the University of Cumbria said: “ANS demonstrated a clear strategy of how their flexible IT structure for the university would meet our current and expected future needs.

“ANS’s solution will not only free up staff time and reduce costs, it will continuously adapt to suit potential changes over the next five years. The ability for the infrastructure to match our development was a key factor in our decision-making process.”

Founded in 1996, ANS Group is a fast-growing IT infrastructure and cloud provider with offices in Manchester and London. The company supplies managed compute, storage and network infrastructures that can be built on-premise or provided as cloud-based solutions hosted in the firm’s data centres.
