Thinking about a career in Development? Meet our latest Dev recruit

Right now is a really exciting time to join ANS as we deepen our cloud and digital expertise and expand our teams. One smart person who has recently joined ANS is Kristiyan.

Kristiyan came from Bulgaria to the UK looking for new possibilities and challenges, 3 years later and he’s found just that in ANS. As our latest recruit in our development team, I wanted to get to know him a little better and find out what’s so great about working in development at ANS.

So Kristiyan, what first attracted you to ANS?

I had been looking for the right development role for a while and couldn’t find anything that suited me. I was beginning to lose hope until I came across ANS, so I took a chance and it paid off. I have to admit, I wasn’t familiar with the company until I started to do some research, but as soon as I did, I knew this was the place for me.

It’s my goal to work with bleeding edge technologies so when I saw the types of projects ANS work on, I couldn’t have been happier. Not only that, it turned out ANS is one of the top places to work in the UK and has placed inside the top 100 for a number of consecutive years, so that filled me with confidence that ANS is a company that truly values and appreciates their employees.

ANS lived up to every expectation. Right from my first interview, everyone was really easy to talk to, which made it feel like it wasn’t an interview at all to be honest. I found everyone really easy to talk to,

For you, what’s the best thing about working in Development right now?

It’s all about the challenges. If I don’t have problems to solve, I feel like I become obsolete. I think I work at my best when my mind is occupied. Which is exactly why ANS works so well for me, the pace at which the team works is fast but that’s what I thrive on and it helps when you’re surrounded by great people.

Which technologies do you enjoy working with the most?

Right now I am really enjoying working on React and Node.js.

Something new I have picked up since starting here is SaaS technology, I wasn’t familiar with it before but now I absolutely love it. There have been times when I have struggled with a task, but once I stripped down the problem to its core, it’s nothing I can’t handle.Cloud technology is definitely the way to go in my opinion.

If you didn’t work in technology, what would you do?

In Bulgaria, my family had a farm and I loved living there. I got to care for the animals every day and it was amazing. I think if I didn’t work in technology, I would be a farmer for sure.

That’s quite a stark contrast! So when you’re not writing code, what do you like to do?

Well, I have a 10-month-old son who is just the greatest baby in the world, so I like to spend every minute I have with him. But when he goes to bed, I go back to coding. I love to pick up other coding languages in my spare time, like right now I can’t decide if I like Swift or Python more. I have a long list of technologies, languages, frameworks that I want to familiarise myself with down the line.

Thanks for talking to me, Kristiyan, sounds like you’ll get on just fine at ANS!
