A Smarter, More Agile Future: Leicestershire Police Move to Azure Cloud

AVS

The Background

Leicestershire Police have partnered with leading digital transformation specialist, ANS, to migrate critical infrastructure to Cloud using Microsoft Azure VMware Solution. This strategic move to Azure aligns with the National Digital Strategy for Policing and leverages Leicestershire Police’s existing internal skill set ensuring a seamless and efficient migration process. This partnership marks a significant milestone in Leicestershire Police’s journey towards digital transformation, positioning them at the forefront of technological innovation in law enforcement.

The Challenge

Leicestershire Police aimed to modernise its infrastructure in-line with the National Digital Strategy for Policing while avoiding the substantial capital expenditure required to refresh it’s on-premises infrastructure. Faced with rising on-premises licensing costs, the force sought a partner to evaluate all available infrastructure options against their current and future digital objectives.

To achieve their goals, Leicestershire Police needed a qualified partner with proven experience in delivering cloud solutions within the Police sector. Through ANS’s cloud navigator process, recommendations were made on cloud target architecture, application rationalisation, migration strategy and target operating model. This engagement gave Leicestershire Police confidence in ANS’s ability to modernise their environments in line with the objectives.

The Solution

Beyond the migration, ANS will provide Leicestershire Police with ongoing management and optimisation of their Azure platform through ANS Co-Managed Azure Cloud service. This includes unlimited access to ANS’s UK-based cloud experts, providing round the clock technical support and cloud cost optimisation. The ANS Cloud Centre of Excellence (CoE) will provide cloud functional engineering to collaborate with the Leicestershire Police team, continuously evolving the environments towards more PaaS based offerings.

ANS Blue Light Industry Lead Chris Hampson said: “We’re proud to have partnered with Leicestershire Police on this exciting project, which sees Leicestershire Police reach a significant milestone on their Digital Transformation journey, delivering on the digital objectives set out by their Chief Officers”.

The partnership with ANS has been positive and came at a great time for the force. Having the desire to align to National recommendations and facing significant increases to our on-premises cost base, the work ANS has done has been instrumental in our ability to migrate to cloud within our tight timescales.
