Nottingham Trent University launches into the cloud with ANS

Nottingham Trent University has partnered with cloud and digital service provider, ANS, to modernise its IT environment by migrating to the Microsoft Azure public cloud in order to build the foundations to execute their 2025 digital strategy.

The university is pushing forward on its cloud first strategy which will help to modernise its current IT environment and pave the way for more innovative projects.

Following a cloud plan and design carried out by ANS, the university was able to identify which areas of its IT infrastructure could be migrated to the cloud to increase efficiency, accessibility and improve user-experience for both staff and students.

By moving to the cloud, the university hopes to consolidate its data centres, moving as many on-premises applications to the cloud as possible, saving on resources and releasing its IT team to work on added-value university projects.

Pete Nicholson, Head of Digital Services at Nottingham Trent University, commented, “The university has been working hard to improve every aspect of what we do and we recognise there are a wealth of opportunities for us to digitise and innovate.

“We set an objective to move to public cloud so we can build the foundations on which to deliver even more innovative projects, whether that be smart campus, Power BI or AI chatbots. Increasing student satisfaction and wellbeing is at the heart of every decision we make here at the university so we knew moving to cloud would be a vital step in enabling us to deliver on our students’ expectations.”

Andy Barrow, CTO at ANS added: “All universities are experiencing increasing global competition, amidst a frosty political landscape and uncertain budgets. These challenges are putting mounting importance on being better than the rest and with less resource. Nottingham Trent University’s ambition to leverage cloud and the latest digital technology will be vital in ensuring they continue to stay ahead of the competition and ensure students are getting the best possible experience. We look forward to continuing our work with the university to ensure they are in a position to maximise their cloud investment.”

As a large university with almost 32,000 students, NTU has achieved a number of outstanding accolades including being named University of the year by the Guardian in 2019.
