Adur & Worthing Councils join forces with ANS to grow and optimise their AWS cloud

Adur & Worthing Councils has partnered with leading cloud and digital services provider, ANS to provide an AWS co-managed service, enabling them to grow the environment in accordance with best practice while freeing up their team to focus on delivering service improvement activities.

The councils, which have been working in partnership since 2008, provide essential services to over 180,000 residents and businesses in the West Sussex region.

The organisation, which has a cloud-first strategy in place, had started the migration of services to AWS, but having struggled to make progress at pace, decided to partner with ANS to co-manage their AWS estate.

Since moving to the ANS co-managed service, the organisations have been able to benefit from regular service reviews to ensure AWS best practice is followed. The service has also meant the councils now have assurance that their AWS instances are secure through patching and up to date antivirus, and are also backed up, enabling them to concentrate their efforts on cloud initiatives and service improvement activities.

Guy Adamson, Technical Delivery Manager at Adur & Worthing Councils said, “Pushing forward on our cloud migration strategy is key for us as we look to minimise our on-premises footprint. Unfortunately, the progress of our migration was slower than we’d hoped because we were being held back by the time and resource spent on day-to-day monitoring and maintenance of our IT estate. It made sense to us to look for a partner that could manage this for us.

ANS understood our goals and timeframes and we were confident they had the expert technical resources in place to deliver the service we needed.

As part of our co-managed service, we have access to ANS’ subject matter experts who have helped us to grow and scale our environment in accordance with AWS best practice. They have also helped us to proactively look at new AWS services and enhancements and crucially it has also enabled us to pick up the pace of our migration strategy.”

Joe Wolski, Technical Director at ANS added, “We’re delighted to be working with the councils to help them extract maximum value from their AWS environment. We often see organisations being held back by the ongoing management of their cloud when this time and resource could be better spent innovating. It’s brilliant to see the progress they have already made, as they migrate more services into AWS, and we look forward to continuing to support them by ensuring their environment is optimised from an efficiency, cost and security perspective.”
